Resist

Resist is a textile collection based on a personal struggle, something I resist. The prints show my struggle to resist conforming to the religious norms associated with menstruation. This collection consists of home textiles and is screen printed and designed by me.

“We could not say the word, It was so absurd.

I was conscious and confused, And unaware of what I am accused.

What were these laws? I needed a pause.”

Storyboard

The storyboard tries to show my personal experience towards menstruation and religion. I try to bring in a personal connect in my storyboard with pictures of me as a child going to Sabarimala. Sabarimala is believed to be the place where Lord Ayyappa meditated after killing the powerful demoness, Mahishi. It’s a popular pilgrim centre in India. It is has been in argument for years whether the temple should allow women as it is believed that menstruation is impure.
